About us
“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”
George Bernard Shaw.
Ireland. Home to many a great writer; the spiritual home of storytelling. Many great poets have walked the hallowed halls of Trinity College, Dublin. Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, Gerald Dawe, Eiléan Ni Chuilleanáin, to name a few.
But poetry is something for the old, dusty literary types, right? Yet in literary salons, bars, sitting rooms and college dorms around the world, the essence of words sparking meaning in verse is still alive, well, and dare we say, flourishing. It’s no peccadillo of a bygone era; its heart is beating loudly at poetry jams, open mics and in the cultural underbelly of many a creative and literary venture.
All of which leads us to Poetic Joy.
About Poetic Joy
What makes you happy? What makes you shine? We all seek joy and meaning, and for Poetic Joy founder, Joyce Abiero, that joy was sparked in a fellow Trinity College friend’s love of the spoken and written word, which took Joyce on her own journey to discover the words her creativity was urging her to share.
Poetic Joy is about more than wearing words on a shirt (or any other of their accessories); it’s about keeping the spirit and essence of poetry alive. It’s about walking to the beat of inclusive unisex fashion, bringing poetry to the mainstream and fusing the two in a brand that is the story.
Perfect attire for your next poetry jam or potter round the shops, Poetic Joy brings sustainable modern clothing practices to the art of the wordsmiths in all of us; a place where we can be our own brand and express ourselves through the love and the power of words.
Wearable Words
How do you know who’s a poet? It could be the guy next door, the colleague you work with or the cashier at your favourite store. (Hint: its’ often the quiet ones, or the least expected.)
Poetic Joy is about bringing together and finding your poetry tribe; where every outfit has the power to tell a story and every wearer is the story, sparking connection and community for the poetically-minded.
Sustainable Supply
From sourcing to shipping, Poetic Joy’s quest is to build a sustainable fashion brand that cares not just about appearance, but in building an eco-friendly business that walks the walk, leaving a positive impact on the environment.
Giving Back to the Community
Mental Health Reform is Ireland’s national collation on mental health. Poetic Joy donates 10% of its sales revenue to this charity, doing vital community work and helping people in Ireland get talking about mental health and improving services and supports for the people who need them.
Living, Breathing Poetry
Ireland and the Irish have always been recognised as the sayers of words, the tellers of stories, the singers of songs. From the mist-shrouded valleys to the windswept cliffs, words and their essence are tacitly understood. More than words on a page, poetry is a living, breathing entity that pulses with the heartbeat of a land steeped in mystery and magic; of triumph and adversity. The spirit of Irish poetry is woven into the very fabric of the country and its people.
Poets gather in cosy pubs, their voices rising and falling like the tide against the rugged shores. Here they spin their tales, each verse a thread in the rich tapestry of Ireland's storytelling tradition.
But Irish poetry isn’t just a celebration of the past; it's a reflection of the present, a mirror held up to the struggles and triumphs of a people whose history is written in blood and ink. Yet amidst the darkness, there is light; a reminder that even in adversity, beauty can still flourish.
It’s a tale that can be told around the world, with each culture and country speaking its stories and telling its tales of past, present and future, to be shared and remembered both by those who matter and those passing by.
Poetic Joy is committed to keeping that spirit alive.
Which just begs the question…
… What’s your story?
